Flinders Fury Recruitment Campaign 2006

Howdy All!

As recruitment officer, I would like to play a role in strengthening the 2006 FUUFC membership after a highly successful 2005 season both on and off the field. Specifically, there are several exciting opportunities to entice first years to this most excellent sport. These involve 4 events, namely: O Camp, O Week, and the first week of the academic year which involves lecture presentations and a Sturt Fair Day demonstration match.

Whilst I am happy to lead from the front, I cannot and will not run the campaign by myself. This is a call to arms to all FURYTES who would like to help me raise the profile of a game that we all love, and to increase our club membership. The recruitment process is integral to the strengthening of the club, from which we all benefit from both on and off the field.

Some DATES:

O Week: Mon 20th-Thurs 23rd Feb

MON 20th: 11am-1pm at the plaza - Club Demo Day

As name implies, will probably have a super small game of box or something on the nice bit of grass that they have grown for us

Will involve a stall with: trophies, streaming footage of autumn delights DIV 1 win + other, competition (involving nudie juice prize give away for winner of competition hopefully + hopefully a big fat Nudie Dude for promotional purpose as well!)

Need people to: look friendly and occupy the stall, talk to interested people, and hang out and have fun. Will work out a roster system if necessary.

TUES 21st:10am-1pm at the plaza – Stall Day

Will involve a stall with: trophies, streaming footage of autumn delights DIV 1 win + other, competition (involving nudie juice prize give away for winner of competition hopefully + hopefully a big fat Nudie Dude for promotional purpose as well!)

Need people to: look friendly and occupy the stall, talk to interested people, and hang out and have fun. Will work out a roster system if necessary.

WED 22nd: 10am-1pm at the plaza – Challenge Day

We will run a throwing competition on this day and probably the others as well and hopefully be able to give away free nudie juice to winners ie most throws through a specified target (nudie juice dude holding a hoop/ what about a ‘see if you can hit joel from here’ competition etc).

Need people to: look friendly and occupy the stall, talk to interested people, and hang out and have fun. Will work out a roster system if necessary.

THUR 23rd: BEACH DAY!

The Sports Association is organising this one – this is a chance to have some fun in the sun with your Frisbee mates and meet some new people. I would like to see everyone out for this (how can you pass up some beach Frisbee action?). I would also like to advertise this day to all new interested peoples who have a chat to us at our stall during the week as a really good chance to come and have a look and a throw.

Probably no stall on this day – will see

O Camp: Saturday 25th February

The idea is to actually incorporate Ultimate Frisbee into the scheduled O Camp activities. This event will be held after our O week activities and so hopefully some of the happy campers would have seen our stall and already have a bit of an idea. I would like to take a group of 7-8 members up to give a brief demonstration, a brief class (those who have SAFDA Coaching Certificates are encouraged to use this to hone their skills), run a few skill based drills and if there is interest and numbers, a small game.

The emphasis is on FUN and to give the camp goers a taste of the game. We will have to come up with some prizes for some skill based competitions as well. Hopefully, we will get a couple of students interested and give them our details and go from there

It would great if I could get 7-8, we will car pool so transport should not be a problem. This is a great opportunity to go to Victor Harbour, have fun, play some ultimate, meet some new people and hopefully recruit!

1st WEEK BACK: Lectures 27th-31st February

Ok, so few people like to stand up in front of a large group and talk – but I can do most of the talking and it looks sooooo much more appealing with a couple of people standing up front and helping me, then just me rabbiting on. Alternatively, if you want to run a presentation yourself, feel free, or if you want to run something with me there as support, then I am happy to do that as well!)

I will be pitching to the economics and commerce 1st year students, but I would also like to pitch to Physical Education and Nursing at the Sturt Campus. However, I will need help with the Sturt Campus as my timetable is different ie if I do not get help, I won’t do it. If you have some topics at this campus, or would like to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Most jobs require strong verbal communication skills, so it is a great opportunity to practice your public speaking skills as well as helping me and your club recruit.

Please let me know if you would like to help (I will get back to you with specific time and dates closer to the start of the year).

STURT FAIR DAY: Tuesday 28TH Feb

Time and slot at this day to be confirmed. Everyone enjoyed playing in our demo game last year and I am keen to run it again – it would be great if we could get the whole team playing a short (50 min match). This is an actual Sports Association event, so we will have much more coverage and exposure this time round. Great opportunity to play some ultimate and SHOW OFF YOUR SKILLS!

:)

This is a HUGE CAMPAIGN and I would like this to be a team effort with everyone contributing to at least one of the above. Don’t wait for someone else to put their hand up, let me know if you want to help (it would be greatly appreciated)!

PS Experience has shown that the most effective way to recruit, is through word of mouth and to get your friends involved. If you have any interested friends, feel free to bring them out to one of the above or to a training night.
